It’s almost that time of year again…

December is fast approaching; the kids are on the edge of their seats, the teachers are counting down the minutes to a little “me” time… but, what to do with that little break? Obviously you’re going to be catching up on some work and earning those valuable CPTD points and all of those other important things you need to get around to doing. Right? Well, what about the rest of your time? The best thing about living in South Africa is that we have great weather during December holidays and a list as long as your ruler of amazing things to do.

Well, now you’re probably sitting, racking your brain for something you’ve been so desperately wanting to do since who knows when, so we thought we’d give you a helping hand with some of our favourite things to do when that precious “me” time comes around.

  1. Head to the beach.

It may be a bit of a cliché but hey, who doesn’t love a little fun in the sun, toes in the sand, beach volleyball with your friends or family, a cool swim in the crashing waves and if you find the right beach – an uninterrupted tanning session to brighten your mood. Just don’t forget your sunscreen!

  2. Take up a new hobby.

Ok, we all take up these hobbies and soon get very bored of them. In some cases, it becomes a massive part of your life. Well, here’s your chance to try something new. If it doesn’t work out, well then at least you had something fun to do during your little bit of time off! What hobbies you ask? How about hiking, cycling, knitting, model building, gardening, playing pranks on your neighbor that’s always unreasonably loud when you just want to get a little shut eye? There is literally an endless list of possibilities. Go wild! If all else fails, you could always just reverse the roles at home and annoy your kids for a change…

  3. Tour the city.

Regardless of where you are in our amazingly beautiful country, there is always something new and exciting to do. For example, if you’re in Gauteng, take a trip to the Maboneng Precinct and experience some amazing food and meet new people. There’s often a salsa party on the rooftops (even those with two left feet can enjoy it). If you’re in the Western Cape, there are wine farms galore and an amazing waterfront where you can explore shops to your hearts content. Perhaps a trip up Table Mountain or visiting those amazing natural pools in Paarl that Sally from Class 3B keeps telling you about? If all else fails, Google will guide you all the way to nirvana.

  4. Spend a little time at home.

We’re all guilty of neglecting our homes during the year. Now’s your chance to finally finish painting the study, planting that veggie garden, fixing that nasty old chair that hubby swears he will do “next weekend”. A little TLC definitely goes a long way and if you don’t feel like doing any hard labour, nobody says you can’t just lounge by the pool with your favourite book.

So, yeah we’ve already mentioned exploring places around you but isn’t this the perfect time to finally see a bit of the world? A little boat cruise in the Caribbean  would be stunning or even a little trip to Venice where you can just soak up the culture while enjoying some of the finer things in life?

Well, whatever you decide to do, do it in style and just enjoy doing it. It’s your turn to be a little selfish and just do the things that YOU love doing!

It’s almost that time of year again…
