The end of the year has finally arrived! School’s out for summer, the marking and most of the admin is done and teachers are dreaming of lazy days filled with nothing but sunshine, cocktails and most of all – no early mornings and emotional breakdowns!
Although the idea of bliss and peace and quiet is uppermost in every teacher’s mind, it is still of the utmost importance to keep those all-important new year’s teaching resolutions and planning in the back of your mind to ensure that 2019 will be a year of utter teaching success!
Here are a few tips to prepare you for 2019:
Coming off a much-needed break, you need to figure out how to make your classroom the ultimate happy place. Positivity is the best outfit you can wear every day and it rubs off.
Try one new technology or instructional technique each month to keep things new and challenging for you and your students. Making a list and assigning one new thing to each month will help you actually stick to this resolution.
As best you can, keep school work at school and make the most of your time at home. There is a life after work and making yourself happy will be beneficial to everyone around you.
With the fresh start, it’s a great opportunity to get your classroom organisation back on track. There is nothing you can do about the mountains of admin and countless meeting, but find your inner peace, buckle down and get things done. Get yourself a timer and set those goals!
Whether you need to add professional development hours or change positions, consider what your careers goals are and get a move on them! We know the economy is tough, but you are the captain of your soul and the master of your own fate!
Well done for making it through the year dear teachers, it has been tough and rewarding at the same time. Because of you, a lot of bright-eyed, bushy-tailed young people are ready to take on the world and make our country a better place. Here’s to you and making 2019 absolutely great!
